Selecting the Perfect Dog Bed and Dog House

Selecting the Perfect Dog Bed and Dog House

As wonderful as it is to show your dog affection, seeing Princess sleep in your bed or on your brand new sofa is not always ideal. Your dog, just like you, should have a comfortable, luxurious space to call her own. His or her individual space is best created with the ideal dog bed and/or dog house. Remember to keep your dog’s size and needs in mind when making your choice about either. Especially when choosing a dog house, consider which option will also best fit your home, lifestyle, and décor preferences.

Types of Dog Beds

Not all dog beds are alike, but each has features offering every dog a comfortable and relaxing place to rest and relax.

  • Standard Dog Beds

The standard dog bed resembles a large cushion or pillow and is placed directly on the floor. Made in a variety of sizes to accommodate any breed, this type of dog bed is also made in a multitude of shapes (oval, round, square, etc). Standard dog bed covers also come in a variety of sumptuous materials, such as leather, suede, velvet, microfiber, fleece, and corduroy to name just a few. Standard dog beds are usually filled with polyester or foam, but some contain cedar chips to help eliminate odor. This type of dog bed is also easily customizable and the perfect decorating accent. Many also feature a removable cover for easy laundering.
  • Donut and Nest Dog Beds

Although similar to a standard bed, donut dog beds and nest dog beds have raised edge. This makes these beds perfect for dogs who love to curl up or lean against something while sleeping. Mostly available in round or oval shapes, these bed types are some of the most luxurious available. Some nest beds are actually made to look like human furniture. The donut dog bed, with its ultra soft edges and cover materials, is the ultimate in plush comfort for your dog.
  • Orthopedic Dog Beds

While beneficial for any age or breed of dog, an orthopedic dog bed is the best way to pamper a senior dog suffering from stiff joints, arthritis, or difficulty with movement. This bed is typically made of high-density orthopedic foam, much like specialty mattresses for humans. The foam gives extra support to aching bones and allows your dog to lie down and stand up more easily.

Giving Your Dog His Own Four Walls

Depending on your living space and lifestyle, a dog house in its many shapes and forms are a must-have for any dog owner. One type of dog house, the kennel or crate, doubles as both means of transport and canine abode. If you travel regularly with your dog, choose a kennel designed for travel and compatible with airline regulations. Also look for one which allows your animal plenty of space to stand up and move around in.

If your property can accommodate it, why not consider a proper dog house? Usually made of plastic or wood, a dog house can be customized to fit your dog’s every need. Often times heating and air conditioning are also available. When choosing a dog house, ensure the materials used are appropriate for your climate. Also remember to ask if assembly is included when ordering.
